Role Description: Seeking an experienced yet adaptable Electrical Engineer for end-to-end electrical engineering in complex building system solutions within the Kansas City metro area. This role at 5BY5 offers a highly collaborative environment with direct impact on diverse projects across multiple market sectors and system types.
Responsibilities:
Lead & Strategize in MEP System Design: Drive conceptualization and feasibility of complex MEP systems, establish design standards, own electrical system design strategy, present solutions to clients, and oversee/mentor teams in calculations and construction documents.
Elevated General Responsibilities: Cultivate client/partner relationships, assume ultimate responsibility for project delivery (budgets, schedules, resources), provide strategic direction for project management, mentor engineers (including performance reviews/training), proactively identify and respond to evolving needs, lead team collaboration while making independent high-level decisions, contribute to business development (opportunities, proposals, presentations), represent technical expertise externally, champion quality control/risk management, potentially manage a team/department (hiring, performance, workload), and contribute to company technical policies/procedures.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensure: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, PE License required.
Experience: Minimum 8-10+ years progressive MEP system engineering experience, proven track record leading projects from conceptualization to commissioning, experience in various building types (commercial, healthcare, industrial, residential).
Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM workflows), Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel). In-depth knowledge of relevant codes/standards (IBC, IMC, ASHRAE). Specialized knowledge in one or more MEP areas (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, energy modeling, sustainable design (LEED, WELL), commissioning). Experience with energy analysis software and life cycle cost analysis.
Leadership & Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead/mentor engineers, project management experience (scopes, budgets, schedules, resources). Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to make critical engineering decisions and solve complex problems. Experience in business development activities.
Other Desirable Qualifications: Relevant certifications (LEED AP, CEM, CPD), active professional organization participation, published papers/presentations, contract negotiation/administration experience.
